Introduction of several main seamless pipe rolling technology

In the world there have been a variety of pipe rolling process. It mainly includes 8 kinds of pipe rolling technology, such as Erhard Pipe, automatic rolling pipe, Dicel pipe, three-roll pipe, hot extrusion pipe, continuous rolling pipe, drawing (rolling) pipe and heat expanding pipe. 

Now introduce as follow:

1 Erhard (Ehrhardt) pipe rolling process

Erhard in 1891, the invention of water pressure piercing technology to produce punched Cup-shaped billet, and in 1899 completed with a mandrel to push through a series of diameter gradually shrinking ring to produce seamless steel pipe method. Usually referred to as pipe jacking process.

Nowadays, the large caliber seamless steel tube is still produced by the pipe jacking method, the largest diameter can reach 1 066 mm, the 1980s, Mannesmann company will develop this process as CPE technology, mainly producing small and medium diameter seamless steel tubes.

2 Automatic tube rolling process

Stevel (Stiefel) 1895 to obtain the patent of disk-type perforation machine, the first automatic pipe mill in 1903 in the United States to put into production, 1905, the use of the whole machine automatic Rolling tube unit was born. Automatic pipe Mill is also called Stevel Pipe Mill. After that, automatic pipe mill has become the main production line of seamless steel tube.

3 Dicel pipe process and ACCU roll pipe rolling process

Sam Diescher First the idea is to introduce the Rotary guide plate into the two-roll skew mill instead of the original one, in order to extend the pipe, and in 1932, the first Dicel (diescher) pipe Mill was born. Half a century later, the United States as company first introduced the cone-shaped roller pipe mill and patented, 1989 the world's first ACCU roll pipe mill in Yantai, China put into production.

4  3-roll tube rolling process

This is a three-roll oblique rolling process, the capillary in the mandrel and 3 rollers between the rolling extension, three-roll pipe machine also known as Accel (Assel) pipe mill.

5  Hot Extrusion Tube Technology

As early as the Mannesmann brothers before the invention of oblique rolling perforation, there has been the use of hot extrusion aluminum technology to produce seamless steel pipe patents. However, only after the successful adoption of glass lubricants in the 1950s, the hot extrusion process of steel tubes has been applied and developed rapidly. Modern hot extrusion steel tube technology is mainly used in the production of high alloy refractory pipe and special-shaped pipe.

6  Continuous tube rolling process

As early as 1891, the United States Kellogg (Kellogg) Steel tube Plant has been awarded a continuous tube mill patent. However, due to numerous technical reasons, this process has not been truly successful. It was not until the 1950s that the technology was greatly developed, and its high capacity, efficiency and high quality gradually became the leading mill of seamless steel pipe production.

7  Cold drawing (rolling) pipe technology

In order to enlarge, supplement and improve the variety and quality of hot rolled seamless steel tubes, the two processing technology of pipe-drawing (rolling) and hot pipe-expanding technology are developed correspondingly.

As early as the hot-rolled seamless steel tube production method used before, cold drawing process has been used in welded pipe two times processing. Cold rolling process is a patented by the United States Tabl reduing Company in 1931, the use of a similar period of rolling mill deformation process (frame reciprocating movement, multi-channel deformation), it is also known as cold Pilger pipe mill.

Cold drawing (rolling) method can not only produce hot rolling method difficult to produce (or not economic) or can not produce the specifications of varieties and high-quality products, but also can be used in lieu of rolling blanks to produce small size steel pipe and high-quality special varieties (such as bearing tubes, stainless steel pipes, etc.). At present, China's cold drawing (rolling) products accounted for about 20% of the total production of seamless steel pipe, far higher than the United States, Japan, Russia and other countries of production.

8 Heat Expansion Pipe process

The hot pipe-expanding process is the main method of producing large caliber seamless steel tubes, and it is divided into 3 types of roller type (skew rolling), pull-expanding type and push-mode. The maximum diameter of roll expanding pipe is up to 1 500mm, which is suitable for scale production, and it is simple, low in investment and small in production.

China's existing seamless steel tube hot rolled finished units 36 sets, and a number of sets of cold rolling (pulling) pipe units. Among them, hot-rolled pipe unit includes continuous rolling pipe unit, automatic rolling pipe unit, cycle rolling pipe unit, precision Rolling pipe unit (ACCU Roll), disc Rolling pipe unit (diescher), three-roll rolling pipe unit, expanding pipe unit, top pipe unit and extruding pipe unit. Also carried out the industrial test of the three-roll planetary tube mill. There are more than 100 units (sets) production of seamless capillary equipment (mainly piercing), compared to any country in the world more production units, can be described as the world's seamless steel tube production unit of the museum.

Today's hot-rolled seamless steel tube production of the basic technology is: blank preparation → heat → wear (punch) hole → add hot-rolled tube → sizing → finishing, inspection, testing (cooling, correction, cutting (SAW) head, sampling, flaw detection, water pressure, weighing, anti-corrosion, etc.) → packaging warehousing.

The main thermal deformation process is to wear (punch) hole, rolling pipe and fixed (reduced) diameter. The piercing (punching) hole is mainly to turn the solid tube blank into a hollow pipe; The rolling pipe is mainly to reduce the wall and control the wall thickness, is also the main process of longitudinal deformation, the fixed (reduction) diameter is mainly reducing diameter and control outside diameter, but also can adjust the wall thickness (tension reducing diameter).

As the process of pipe rolling is not only the main process of longitudinal deformation, but also the control of wall thickness, surface quality, and the production efficiency of the whole unit.
